Le Cours Franco Américain

Winter and Spring sessions 2010

american Acting in Paris (Wednesday, 7:30 - 10:30 PM)

Technique and scenework, with particular focus on Anglo-American scripts. Techniques explored in the first part of each class (sensory exercises, improvisation, visualizations, etc.) are then applied to the work on scenes as needed, to help the actor develop a clearer understanding of his or her creative needs and progress.  This class is taught exclusively in English.

the Actor’s Voice (Tuesday, 10AM - 1PM)

A synthesis of a variety of techniques to unblock and develop the vocal/respiratory system.  Freeing the voice also liberates the emotions and imagination

Technique & Scene Study (Tuesday, 7:30 - 10:30 PM)

Sense memory and complementary techniques used as preparation for scenes, which are explored in terms of given circumstances, objectives, transitions, etc.  The connection between personal technique and dramatic structure is clarified.

Sense Memory (Wednesday, 10AM - 1PM)

Based on the work of Stanislavsky and his American followers, these individual and group exercises and improvisations develop the capacity to transform verbal information given by the script into living experience onstage or on camera.

Scene Study (Thursday, 10AM - 1PM)

The goal is always to go beyond “acting” in order to live truthfully an imaginary life.  Following passage of a scene prepared outside the class, the work involves evaluating the actors’ process  and exploring with them, through dialogue and/or the varied techniques of the craft, a deeper involvement in the life of the character and the world of the script.

The Classes

English may be used in all the classes; the Monday evening class, “American Acting in Paris”, is taught exclusively in English.

New York Workshop - «Summer in the City»

The purpose of this eight-day workshop (August 18-25, 2010) is to give participants a taste of the life of an actor in New York.  In addition to a full and varied program of classes, taught by New York based artists along with Sarah Eigerman, consultations with theatre professionals and exploration of New York’s cultural scene are an integral part of the program.

Scene Presentation

A selection of work from the classes will be shown to students and guests on Saturday afternoon during the Winter Session (date to be announced).  The presentation will be followed by an informal get-together, allowing us to see and share in the ongoing wwork in a  casual, community environment.

Performance Project

Public performance is of course the ideal complement to classroom work, giving the actor a clearer perspective on his or her creative process and professional  goals.  The performance project shows invited professionals FACT’s training approach while giving participants the opportunity to test their performance skills in front of an audience.  Last years production of DE QUOI JE ME MELE, written and directed by Sarah Eigerman, continued our longtime collaboration with the Guichet Montparnasse Theatre.

Workshops  & Performances

«To act is to tell a story through behavior. In order for that story to be alive, the actor must become personally involved in the character’s life and the world of the script. My teaching approach helps the actor create and experience, spontaneously and truthfully, an imaginary reality. It guides the actor towards an individual craft, which can continue to deepen and evolve throughout his or her artistic life.»

Sarah Eigerman
